What is the Ministry of Convincing Proof All About?

The mission statement of Convincing Proof is this: To glorify God in serving others by providing resources which present convincing proof that Christianity is true.

To this end, I mostly concentrate on writing and speaking. My written work takes many forms – books, articles, blog posts, answers to questions, papers, etc. I also speak in a variety of venues – conferences, lectures, sermons, Bible studies, YouTube videos, etc. Whether I’m writing or speaking, my primary goal is to encourage people to trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior. That’s why I focus on presenting good reasons and evidence to believe that Jesus’ message is true.

So what is Jesus’ message? It starts with some bad news—according to Jesus, everyone’s relationship with God is broken. And it’s broken because of our moral failures, our evil choices. We were created to reflect God by loving Him and loving others. But we’ve all been much more selfish and prideful than we should be. Our bad choices have not only broken our relationship with God, but they’ve also made us worthy of His judgment and punishment. Yes, God created us and loves us, but He’s also the moral judge of the universe and thus must punish evil, including our evil. According to Jesus, the punishment we all deserve is to perish eternally, that is, to be separated from God for all eternity.

Thankfully, Jesus’ message also has good news—in spite of the fact that we’re all moral failures, God still loves us. And for this reason, He sent His Son Jesus Christ to provide a way for us to be forgiven. Jesus summed it up well:

“For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life.”

John 3:16

Jesus, being fully God and fully human, lived the morally perfect life we’ve all failed to live. And then He died on the cross as our substitute to pay our punishment that we deserved. He promised that anyone who believes, that is, puts their faith, their trust, in Jesus Christ as their Savior, will be forgiven of their moral failures, reconciled back to a right relationship with God, and welcomed into heaven to spend all eternity with God.

When I encourage people to trust in Christ, they often ask, “But how do we know Jesus’ message is really true?” This is a fair and legitimate question, one that I wrestled with all throughout my twenties. That’s why I focus on providing convincing proof that Jesus’ message is true. This type of ministry is called apologetics, a term that comes from the Greek word apologia. This term was used in the Greek language to describe a situation where someone defends their position on something by presenting good reasons and evidence. Peter used this Greek word when he wrote:

“…honor the Messiah as Lord in your hearts. Always be ready to give a defense [apologia] to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you. However, do this with gentleness and respect…”

1 Peter 3:15-16

It’s important to note that Jesus never asked people to trust in Him blindly, to take some blind leap of faith. No, He gave good reasons and evidence to back up His message. One of the primary evidences He provided was His resurrection, and this is actually where the name of my ministry, Convincing Proof, comes from. The New Testament says that:

“After He had suffered, He also presented Himself alive to them by many convincing proofs, appearing to them during 40 days and speaking about the kingdom of God.”

Acts 1:3

Later in Acts 17, after Paul explained Jesus’ message to a group of Greek philosophers, he told them that God

“…has set a day when He is going to judge the world in righteousness by the Man He has appointed. He has provided proof of this to everyone by raising Him from the dead.”

Acts 17:31

So, like Jesus and His disciples, I work at providing good reasons and evidence to believe that Christianity is true. This includes:

Scientific Evidence

  • Evidence the universe had a beginning, which points to the existence of God
  • Evidence for design in the universe, which points to the existence of God
  • Evidence that Christianity and science do not conflict

Historical Evidence

  • Evidence for Jesus’ resurrection and His other miracles
  • Evidence that the Bible is historically reliable and true
  • Evidence that the Bible hasn’t been corrupted over the centuries

Philosophical Reasons

  • Reasons to believe that a trinitarian God is the best explanation of morality
  • Reasons to believe that it’s not contradictory for God and evil to both exist
  • Reasons to believe that Christianity is rationally coherent

Though I work in all three of these areas, I specialize in philosophical apologetics. I earned my PhD in Philosophy of Religion in 2020. If you’d like to check out my ministry more, I encourage you to watch a sermon I preached called “The Greatest Sermon of All Time,” which you can find here. In this sermon I walk through Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount, which many people, including many non-Christians, consider the greatest sermon ever given. Please let me know how I can serve you, for that’s how I view my ministry, as serving others with the gifts and abilities He’s given me.
